T.R.O.T. meeting
Monday, March 08, 2004
The meeting was held at the Corinna Firehouse Annex on Sunday March 7th. The meeting was called to order. We missed a lot of members at the meeting and hope everyone is surviving the winter. Before the meeting was called to order the members enjoyed a nice potluck supper.

The following items were discussed:

  1. The club voted to spend up to $150.00 on door prizes for the Trail Trials and the Annual Banquet at Tilton's Auction on May 8th.
  2. After researching club liability insurance coverage, Linda Archer presented to the club options available to the club to cover "all events" open to the public. Insurance rates ranged from $585.00 for Horsemen's United Association, Inc. to $990.00 from various providers. The club voted to join the Horsemen's United Association and obtain coverage under their umbrella of $500,000. The insurance only covers the club and does not cover club members or members hosting rides. Members interested in the state laws covering "use of public land" "Title 14, Section 159-A Limited Liability for Recreational or Harvesting Activities can find it on www.state.me.us
  3. The club voted down raising the membership fees to $20.00 family, $17.50 individual and $10.00 junior to cover the increase in the insurance cost.
  4. The club voted "not" to pay for part of the member's dinner at the annual banquet this year to help cover the additional cost of insurance.
  5. The club voted to change the sleigh rally in 2005 to the 2nd Saturday in February.
  6. The club voted to hold (2) overnight rides in 2004. (1) Overnight ride at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor August 7th & 8th - Betty Hauger is coordinating the arrangements. (2) Overnight ride at Sherman at Linda Archer's place- June 5th & 6th.
  7. The club voted to hold another clinic in November on Centered Riding with Sam Morrison. Linda Archer is to contact Sam for possible dates in November and coordinate arena space.
  8. Sondra Day updated the club in regards to the upcoming driving clinic on April 3rd with Betty Hauger. Betty Hauger is going to have a demonstration in the morning on driving. Anyone interested in getting a feel for driving can show up in the morning during the demonstration and have the opportunity to drive with Betty. The clinic is filled with (6) horses.
  9. Rita Brooks updated the club in regards to the upcoming all trophy horse show on May 22nd. The club has obtained "sponsors" for all 33 classes, which helps cover expenses. The ribbons have already been ordered and prepaid. The trophies will be ordered in the next week. We still need volunteers to be gatekeepers, timers, and set up helpers, ribbon person and registration.
  10. Susan Manson updated the club in regards to the upcoming Bill Green of Maine ride on May 9th. The ride is to be held in Newport, starting from the "old" St. Albans Mobile Home parking lot. The ride will be approximately 8 miles and will start at 9:30am and bring a bagged lunch.
  11. The club was asked for volunteers to hold the Trail Trials for 2004. Betty Hauger volunteered to hold the Trail Trials at her house in Winterport. If Betty is unable to hold the event, Rita Brooks volunteered, along with Gini Ernst to be backup hosts. The Trail Trials are to be held on September 12th.
  12. The club voted to help the Dixmont Goldcrest Riders repair the "Cates Meadow" and "Palmer Meadow" bridges in Troy. The snowmobile club has agreed to fix the bridges to make them horse safe as long as the club would help with the manual labor. Linda Archer will get a hold of the snowmobile club in May and then round up volunteers. Betty Hauger is going to check with her local snowmobile club on repairing several bridges in her area.
  13. Gini Ernst updated the club on being a member of the "New England Horse & Trail". Gini donated the $5.00 to have the club become a member. Members can join at a cost of $5.00 per person and $5.00 per horse to accumulate yearend awards. All rides will be listed in New England Horse & Trail.
