CENTRAL MAINE - Twenty six members attended the TROT (Trail Riders of Today) year end banquet held at the Oriental Jade Restaurant in Bangor on November 20. Judging from the traffic in and out of the banquet room it looked as if members partook generously at the buffet. Throughout the year members volunteered to host 20 rides. Of the 17 not cancelled due to rainy weather members were able to ride a total of 215 miles. Many thanks and much appreciation to the following members who put the time and effort into not only organizing a ride but also putting on a great meal! Sue Manson, Sondra Day, Amy Beem, Gini Ernst, Roy and Rita Brooks, Linda Archer, Louise Townsend, Tim Briggs, Betty Davis, Pam Logue, Marcia Meagher, and for the first time 2 junior riders organized and marked a 13 mile ride, doing a great job! They were Pam Howard and Katy Hauger. Junior riders were awarded a medal and ribbon with miles ridden for the year They were: Bronze medals are awarded to riders using the same horse 75 miles or under or riding 3 club rides. They are: Silver medals to riders using the same horse riding 76-150 miles. Gold medals to riders using the same horse riding 151-200 miles are: Sue Manson received a large trophy for riding Easily My Idol a total of 499 miles. Sue also received a plaque and mileage plate for riding over the 500 mile mark with Easily My Idol. She has ridden this horse a total of 526 miles to date. Linda Archer has ridden her horse Impressive Class Act a total of 871 miles to date. Linda received a plate to add to her plaque. In the rider miles category Amy Beem reached 1000 miles ridden since 1997. Amy has logged in 1027 miles on various horses. The highest mileage ridden for the year, junior award, was awarded to Abby Hill. Abby rode Waikerie Lexi and Spring Acres Heidi. The senior highest mileage horse and rider combination was awarded to Sue Manson and Easily My Idol with 177 miles. This year a special award was given to Charlotte Shaw and Miss Midnight Fire. Charlotte's job includes weekend work and in order to attend a club ride on her Sunday to work she loads up her horse and takes her to work so she can leave and go directly to the club ride. On two occasions Charlotte arrived at a ride cancelled due to rain and decided to ride anyway. She was awarded the best Sportsman Award. Congratulations to everyone. Last season we spent peaceful hours with our horses and in some cases our children too, got to see a lot of beautiful country and visit with some delightful people and are eagerly awaiting next years first ride.
